I'm pretty sure at one point when I was fresh out of college that I tried a "chocolate martini." If I did in fact try such a beverage, I'm certain that it wasn't a real martini, which contains gin and vermouth. It was more likely vodka, cream, and cream de cacao, which is delicious, but a martini it is not. I still want to try a proper martini some day; I have the gin at home, but don't have any vermouth (yet).

My favorite cocktail to mix at home is the Blind Russian (Vodka, Kahlua, and Irish Cream), although I also enjoy making this other drink of unknown name that contains amaretto, white creme de cacao, and half & half. I'd make one now if I hadn't just brushed my teeth.

I got my first paycheck and immediately opened a bank account. The bank was within yards of my favorite discount grocery store, so I went in for some shopping. As I passed the wine section I thought about PW's Angry Orchard suggestion, and when I got to the beer section I looked around until I spotted the gnarly apple tree. I bought a six-pack of crisp apple hard cider, which I carried behind a bag of chips on the way to the house so my step dad wouldn't ask. I quickly put the bottles in my room, then in my closet. After surreptitiously pouring the contents of a bottle into a glass, I enjoyed it with some fried veggie leftovers. The first sip was delicious, and the rest wasn't bad. Just not as tasty as I'd expected. The closest things I've had before were kombucha and kvass, both of which I really like when made right. As I was finishing dinner, I wondered why I was feeling a little wobbly, and remembered that I'd just had alcohol. Yep, one bottle and I was half drunk. Okay, maybe not, but I still feel funny. Mostly like it's way past my bedtime (which it almost is) with a slightly loopy head. I will have to be extra careful with future experiments.

I love angry orchard. I hope it was cold tho- that would be gross warm! I'm a bit of a lightweight too even tho drinking is not new to me.
My first drink was a Smirnoff Ice. Maybe apple or raspberry. Try those! They go down easy. Enjoy--responsibly of course. (Lol sorry- that's the mom in me)
Ah- reading this thread really makes me want a drink. I've been struggling with a weird bout of gastritis for 9 months now. So no drinking for me until I'm healed up. my favorites: beer (yeungling is my fav), Bacardi rum and coke, whiskey and coke, & moscato. I'm kind of high strung so a nice drink is really relaxing to me.

I saw that my local Walmart carries Natalie's recommended Henry's Hard Grape Soda, so I'm going to buy a pack ASAP. This, like Angry Orchard and other flavored beverages, tastes best when chilled.

If I've eaten something in the recent past, one standard serving of alcohol won't really have a noticeable effect. I feel a bit happier, but that could just as easily be because I got to drink something tasty. Maybe it'd happen all the same if I drank a placebo. Now, after two beverages within half an hour or so, I'm going to start feeling sleepy and relaxed. Hence, I can't drink much when I'm trying to hang out with friends, because I end up just sitting there saying nothing and trying to stay awake.

I've had Barefoot Pink Moscato which was really good.

Definitely drink hard cider chilled! I had two with coworkers after work, and I definitely felt . . . different. Not incapacitated but maybe a little dizzy? Hard to explain but I definitely felt a little weird and then I thought, "Oh. Alcohol. Inexperienced Me."

I bought a can of hard cider the other night and was drinking it. My little girl (always so curious) asked what I was drinking. I said, "Apple juice." Later she asked me for some. I said it was a grown-up drink. "Wine?" she demanded. "No," I replied truthfully. "Beer?" she continued. "No," I reiterated. "Alcohol?" she interrogated. I repeated that it was for grown-ups. Later she asked, "Why are you buying alcohol now, Mom?"

Oh my, PW. You could buy your daughter some kombucha, which technically has alcohol in it. Homemade kvass is called "children's beer" in Russia, I've read. Maybe explain to her that natural fermented beverages have health benefits in moderation.

I drank another bottle of Angry Orchard today with no noticeable effect (much earlier than last night). Both were drunk cool but not cold, so I'll put a bottle over my a/c vent before work next time (no charge for that life hack).

Yep, that was a new experience for me yesterday. I've been over-sugared, over-caffeinated, tired enough for reality to loosen its grip, but never (very slightly) tipsy.

I had another bottle of hard cider, this time quite cold. Still not impressed. I think I'll try a wine next. I'll look for pink moscato.
